Remembering Our Veterans
The History of Memorial Day
Memorial Day is a special day in America. It is a day set aside to honor those who have given their life for the freedoms and ameneties that we enjoy as free citizens of the United States. Memorial Day as a national holiday has not been around very long but the history behind it and the celebration of fallen heros dates back to 1866 in Waterloo, New York. Here is a brief overview video taken from The History Channel that explains he roots of memorial day and how it became to be the tradition it is today.
As we celebrate Memorial Day we hold services in cemeteries around the nation and take the time to view the ranks, tours, and conflicts written on veteran memorials. There is a peace in knowing these men and women gave their lives so we can enjoy freedom. Patten’s Michigan Monument Company has had the opportunity to construct several civic memorials that reflect on the past and provide a long standing tribute to the veterans of their respective communities. Here are some locations where we have constructed veteran memorials that you may want to visit for the upcoming holiday.
